Signs Of The Last
Day
1)
Belief That There Is No Other God Than Allah & That Mohammed (PBUH)
Is His Slave & Messenger
All Muslims must believe that "There Is Only
One God (Allah in Arabic) & Mohammed Is His Messenger".
This is the most basic belief in Islam and whoever believes this, will
eventually get to Heaven. If they were very
bad and committed more sins than good deeds, then they will be punished
according to their sins for a period of
time. Then God will purify their souls and bring them up to Heaven to live
there forever.
2) Praying
Five Times A Day (The Muslim Way)
All Muslims are required to pray the five daily
prayers. The prayer times depend on the position of the sun (for
example: The Fajir Prayer is at dawn). There are six requirements of prayer:
(1) Purification [You must have performed ablution before prayer]
(2) Covering The Body [Men are supposed to cover from their navel to their
knee and women should be dressed
from head to toe with the exception of her face and hands]
(3) Reverence/Devoutness [Must be completely concentrated on prayer[
(4) Must face the Qibla (Mecca) [All Muslims are required to face the Ka'ba
in Mecca when they pray]
(5) Must be prayed on its proper time [If you miss the prayer, you are
allowed to make it up later]
(6) State Your Intentions To Yourself [You should state which prayer you
are about to pray]
3) Giving
Charity To The Needy
All Muslims that are financially able have to give 2.5% of their unused
wealth to charity every year. If you are
a person that makes money and then spends it on food then makes more then
spends it, you are not required because
that wealth is being used. But if you aquire wealth and you dont spend
it for a year (for example, you leave it in the
bank), then you should give 2.5% on that.
4) Fasting
On Ramadan
All Muslims must fast on the month of Ramadan from Dawn to Dusk. They are
not allowed to eat or drink during
the fasting period until after dusk. Muslims that are past puberty that
miss a day of Ramadan without fasting it for no
reason (was not sick, etc.) will be required to fast 2 months straight
after Ramadan to make up for that one day. If
you accidentally eat or drink something during your fast, you may
continue their fast.
5) Making Pilgrimage To Mecca At Least Once In Your Lifetime If You Are Able (Financially/Physically)
Any Muslim that is able to make pilgrimage to the Ka'ba in Mecca, must
do so at least once in his/her lifetime.
They are exempt if they are physically or financially unable or for some
other important reason in which they can
not make it to Mecca.

Islam
is a very simple but misunderstood religion. This is due to the lack of
presenation of Islam by the Muslims and the hostile prtrayal of Islam by
western critics. Non-Musims can judge Islam only so far as they have known
and seen it practiced by Muslims.
If
Islam has been misunderstood, its because Muslims are human beings and
hot angels. Their subjective to the same weakness, short comings, trials
and temptations as other people.
Translated
from Arabic, Islam means submission. It is derived from a word meaning
peace. The individual is totally devoted as well as submissive to The Will
Of God, Allah. There is no separation between government and religion,
for Islam is a total way of life.
Before
Islam, Arabia was a country of nomadss. The nomads conisisted of several
tribes and clans, of these, Quraish was the strongest. Every tribe had
their own idol to wroship. It was Omar Ibn Haiy who introduced idol worshipping
to the nomadic Arabs. The first idol introduced to the Arabs was called
Hubel. Then other gods were used. There were gods of prosperity, for health,
for family, for protection, for starting their caravans and for finding
water. It was known that Quraish in Mecca had about 360 idols that they
worshipped.
Quraish
made Mecca a very significant center for both idolatry as well as commerce.
It was regarded as a merchant city for creating revenue. On their route,
caravans would stop in Mecca to sell their goods.
The
various tribes were constantly fighting, however, they made an agreement
among the various tribes and nomads that there is no fighting while attending
the desert fair or doing the pilgrimage in Mecca. They were all invited
to sell their goods and worship their gods.
The Arabs before Islam were
known for their ferocity. The strong, with ther draconian behavior, were
extreme rulers. Fighting was always present. Trepidation and intimidation
was a way of life. These unscrupulous nomads would fight about redundant
very minute issues. For example, Sheikh Waal killed a female camel that
belonged to the Bakr family and the feud went on for forty years!
The Arabian society before
Islam was full of injustices. There was no law or protection for any common
people. The tribes all governed themselves but Quraish was the only tribe
which had Dar Al-Nedwa which was a house of arbitration for resovling and
conflict.
The tribes at that time cherished
their freedom and would stop at nothing even murder, if someone would consider
changing the status quo. The family structure emphasized the father. The
children were taught to obey the father not the mother. This made the status
of women before Islam nothing more than a slave. It was Islam that liberated
women and restored to them their rights. Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammed
(PBUH), was one of the first to preach against the burial of newborn baby
girls as well as the owning of slaves.
Alcoholism played a major
role in tribal gathering. It was something to be proud of. It gave you
status and influence. Many of the tribal poetry and slogans made reference
to alcohol. Islam came and abolished the use of alcohol.
There were some fine characteristics
of Arabian tribes that flourished more under Islam. Hospitality increased
because Islam preached quality to all and love they neighbor. The tribes
protected their boundaries and watched over each other. The Arabian tribes
were known to have outstanding memory. They could memorize very, very long
poetry easily. Many people could predict when it would rain and the direction
the wind would be blowing the following day. Many were involved in homeopathy.
They treated various sicknesses with a variety of desert herbs. Commerce
was an Arab specialty. With Islam, being careful and accurate when weighing
anything, fair trade, and not being greedy allowed commerce to flourish.
